Bangkok (VNA) – Thousands of Thai police and soldiers conducted a large examination of nine suspect locations in Bangkok to track down criminals and foil schemes that threaten the national security.

The main force joining the campaign is the Arintaraj special mission of the Thai Royal Police. This is the second examination in the past seven days amidst high alert and tightened security after Bangkok discovered a terrorist bombing plot planned for late October.

The same day, the Bangkok police chief, Lieutenant General Sanit Mahathaworn, reassured locals of the security situation and called on them to stay vigilant and report to authorities any suspect individuals and activities.

Earlier, Bangkok’s deputy police chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul told reporters about the possibility of bombings in three locations in the capital and vicinity by a group between October 25-30. The bombings may target tourist destinations and shopping centres, he said, revealing that the group is from southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.-VNA
