Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sept. 16 paid an official visit to Laos to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

During her stay in Laos , the Thai PM met with Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and President of the Lao National Assembly Pany Yathotou.

At the meeting with Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, host and guest discussed a wide range of issues regarding the relations and cooperation between the two countries, such as transport, electricity, trade, investment, labour and borders.

They agreed to continue working closely together to boost relations and make every effort to address remained shortcomings.

They also reached consensus on the early completion of border demarcation and marker planting along their common border line.

The two sides compared notes on cooperation within the framework of ASEAN, especially the implementation of a project in the master plan aiming to build a strong and prosperous ASEAN towards the ASEAN Community by 2015.

Yingluck pledged to support Laos and contribute to strengthening the two countries’ cooperation in trade, investment and tourism.

This was the first visit to Laos by Yingluck since she won a landslide victory in the general elections on July 3 to become new Prime Minister of Thailand. /.
