The Centre for Thai studies was inaugurated at a ceremony held on May 7 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City with the attendance of Thai princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, among others.

The financially self-sufficient centre, backed by the Thai government, will organise Thai studies and lectures as well as conduct cultural and academic services under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

At the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Vo Van Sen, Rector of the University, highlighted that it will be a leading centre in the south providing Thai classes and studies and making practical contributions to elevating the traditional relations between Vietnam and Thailand.
Meanwhile, a representative from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the centre will serve as a bridge linking academic studies between two countries and fostering the strategic partnership.

On the same day, Nguyen Thi Hong, Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee held a reception for the Thai princess.

During her time in Vietnam, her Highness together with an enterprise delegation paid a visit to Unilever Vietnam and LS Pack Co., Ltd in the Tay Bac- Chu Chi industrial park.-VNA
