Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand Tanasak Patimapragorn has re affirmed the country’s strong commitment to its active and full participation in the realisation of the ASEAN Community by 2015.

He made the statement at a meeting with ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh after attending the inauguration ceremony of Indonesia’s new President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on October 21.

Tanasak expressed appreciation to the Secretary-General and the ASEAN Secretariat for their dedication and contributions to ASEAN, stressing the importance of developing ASEAN’s common position and coordinating actions on various issues of common interest and concern such as sustainable development, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and peace-keeping.

He reiterated Thailand’s consistent policy to provide all necessary resources to support the Secretary-General and the ASEAN Secretariat in the performance of their tasks to meet the needs and requirements of the ASEAN Community building and the post-2015 vision.

On his part, ASEAN Chief Le Luong Minh highlighted Thailand’s efforts in fulfilling its commitments to fully and actively participate in the ASEAN Community building and addressing regional and international issues of common interest and concern.

He informed the Thai official of the progress of the ASEAN community building in three pillars including politic- security, economics and culture- society, noting that regardless of the challenges, ASEAN is on track toward the realisation of ASEAN Community by 2015.-VNA
