Thailand and Australia will contest the ASEAN Football Federation U19 championships final on August 12.

Vietnam ’s attempt to make the final on home furf failed when they lsot to Australia 4-1 while Thailand overcame Malaysia 1-0.

Both semi-finals were in HCM City on Aug. 10.

Although beaten, the Vietnamese showed their best form of the championships which started last week.
Australia ’s goals came from Mathew Leckie, Daniel Bowles, James Virgili and Joshua Groenewald while Ha Anh Tuan netted for Vietnam with a powerful header.

“ Vietnam is a very good team. The scoreline does not reflect what happened on the pitch,” said the Australian coach Johannes Versleijen.

“All Vietnamese players are very skillful and have a lot of speed and caused much difficulty to our team.”

Vo Hoang Buu, head coach of the Vietnamese team, said : “Our players played very well and gave their best.

“However, the finishes were not very good and many clear-cut chances were missed.”

Vietnam will play off against Malaysia for third on August 12. When the teams clashed in group play last week, Vietnam won 2-0./.
