Thai police have claimed a big victory in the country’s war on the drug trade after uncovering a large drug trafficking ring and seizing almost 5.3 million methamphetamine pills worth close to 30 million USD.

The drugs were taken during two related busts in Nonthaburi, close to Bangkok, and central Phetchabun province, according to police. They added that six people were arrested in the two operations.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, at least 1.4 million methamphetamine pills are produced each year in the Golden Triangle region around the border areas of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.

In Thailand, there are an estimated 600,000 users of methamphetamine.-VNA
