Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej underwent a heart surgery on June 7.

In a statement, the Thai Royal Household Bureau said tests had discovered that several arteries on the right side of the King’s heart and one on the left had narrowed.

On June 7 doctors performed a procedures without anaesthetic, known as ballon surgery to widen the arteries to resume normal blood flow.

The result was satisfactory and the medical team are closely monitoring the king, according to the statement.

Crowned in 1946, the 88-year-old king is the world's longest-reigning monarch. He is one of the most beloved kings in Thai history thanks to more than 2,000 projects and initiatives to improve living standards of the poor-VNA
