Bangkok (VNA) – The National Legislative Assembly of Thailand (NLA) has recently approved an updated version of the Nuclear Energy Act.

The 152- article law, submitted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, amended 17 articles in the existing act.

It was discussed and passed at the latest NLA meeting on May 19. There were 144 votes for and one against the motion, with five abstentions.

Minister of Science and Technology Pichet Durongkaveroj said the amendments aim to improve safety in line with international regulations on nuclear energy.

The new law will set up a committee steering the use of nuclear energy with the Prime Minister as chairman.

At the session, the NLA proposed drafting civil penalties targeting violations of the energy law.
