Bangkok (VNA) – A referendum on Thailand’s new constitution will be held on July 31, announced Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon.

It will be followed by a general election next year, whether or not the new charter is approved, the Deputy PM said on February 11.

He stressed that the general election will be held next year, however, he did not give details.

All parties must accept the outcome after the election, he said, adding that the constitution is the rule for the election.

However, Prawit did not mention which constitution will be applied for the election in case that the drafting new constitution is rejected.-VNA
