The Thai government hopes to earn around 130 billion THB (4 billion USD) from release of rice stockpiles in 2014, according to the online newspaper oryza.com.

Thai officials said the government could only sell about 800,000 tonnes of rice to traders while its target is 2 million tonnes. In addition, around 8 million tonnes of rice have been sold in government-to-government deals since 2012.

Thailand exported about 7 million tonnes of rice in 2012 worth around 148.8 billion THB (4.72 billion USD). In the previous year, the country raked in 196 billion THB (6.4 billion USD) from exporting 10.3 million tonnes of rice.-VNA
