Bangkok (VNA) – Thai authorities on April 12 ordered southern areas to tighten security in public places after a deadly blast near Jana district railway station in Songkhla province the previous day.

Security forces will beef up security checks on suspicious people and vehicles and intensify patrol activities at train and bus stations.

At Hat Yai station, luggage will be checked by metal and explosive detection equipment.

A police captain and a 4-year old boy were killed and 15 other people were injured when a motorcycle bomb exploded on April 11.

Several attacks have occurred in southern areas recently, causing 10 deaths and injuring hundreds.

During this time, many people are returning home to celebrate the Songkhran festival while foreign tourists are also flocking to the country for the water splashing festival.-VNA
