Bangkok (VNA) – The Trade and Investment Framework Agreement Joint Council of Thailand and the United States discussed goals of the bilateral strategic economic cooperation in Bangkok on April 3.

This was the first official economic meeting between the two countries under the administration of US President Donald Trump.

Boonyarit Kalayanamit , Head of the Trade Negotiation Department under Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, said that the meeting offered opportunities for both countries to discuss the strategic partnership on areas of mutual concern, particularly trade, investment, human resources development, innovation and research.

The meeting also helped Thailand understand US trade and investment policies and address current issues, such as Thailand’s request to be part of US General Schemes of Preference treatment for travel goods.
