Following a Cabinet resolution on October 22 regarding visa exemptions for Thais who travel to Myanmar for no more than 14 days, the Thai Cabinet has expected both countries to sign an agreement to that effect by the end of this December.

Suthipong Pheunphiphop, President of the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA), disclosed that Myanmar is currently the only country in ASEAN that still requires a travel visa. If the waiver takes place, it will provide great convenience to Thai travelers who frequently visit the country.

A number of airlines have also extended their flight routes to Myanmar to take advantage of the growing tourism demand in the region.

However, though the visa exemption is set to be implemented, package tour prices have been reported to decrease only slightly - ranging from 18,000 - 30,000 THB per package, as hotel prices in Myanmar have increased in accordance with the growing number of tourists, especially in Yangon .-VNA
