The annual That Luang Festival officially kicked off in Laos ’s Vientiane capital on October 31 to mark the 448 th anniversary of the construction of the country’s iconic That Luang (Great Stupa).

The week-long festival will feature religious rituals such as a sutra chanting ceremony and a candle procession around the stupa, along with a number of sports competitions and cultural performances.

It is also aimed at encouraging Lao people to uphold their traditional culture and custom, the organising board said.

Additionally, a trade fair is held in parallel with the festival to serve as a platform for local businesses to advertise their products and expand partnership.-VNA
