Over 7,400 people took part in the Samsung Hope Relay in HCM City on June 17 in promotion of the forthcoming 2012 London Olympics.

This event was also launched on the website http://www.samsung.com/vn/olympic and the ‘Walking with Samsung’ mobile phone application in May.

Besides advocating the practice of sport, the online and open-air events also raised money for the ‘Smart library’ programme, which was set up to encourage poor children in the suburbs of big cities to study.

For each kilometre a person walked, Samsung contributed 50,000 VND for the programme. So far, a total of 1.78 billion VND have been raised for the children.

Vietnamese chess master Le Quang Liem and Miss World Vietnam, Ngo Phuong Lan, will join over 100 individuals from around the world in the London Olympics torch relay, which will be held by Samsung in the UK from June 21-26.-VNA
