The governments of Australia, the United Kingdom and Denmark will provide Vietnam with aid worth 93 million USD to implement phase III of the National Goal Programme (NGP) on Clean Water and Environmental Hygiene.

At the signing ceremony for the aid between representatives from the three governments and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on Jan. 11 in Hanoi , MARD Minister Cao Duc Phat reviewed the implementation results of the previous two phases of the programme, saying they contributed to improved living conditions and health for people in rural areas.

He said the support from the three countries will help Vietnam complete the targets of the third phase, affirming the country’s commitment to using the assistance effectively.

Michael Wilson, Minister Counsellor of the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) praised the results that Vietnam had achieved in the first and second phases of the programme, saying that Vietnam should make further efforts to achieve targets on environmental sanitation in this third phase.

Phase III is expected to bring clean water, hygienic water closets and breeding facilities to most households, schools, kindergartens and medical stations in rural areas./.
