Hanoi (VNA) – Three foreign tourists were killed and one remains missing after a speed boat capsized off the Thai holiday island of Koh Samui, Thai police said on May 27.

The island authority said that the boat carrying 32 tourists and four crew members flipped on the afternoon of May 26 after it was slammed by a wave near a rocky stretch of coast off the island in the Gulf of Thailand.

The bodies of a 28-year-old British woman, a 29 year-old German woman and a 30 year-old Hong Kong woman were retrieved.

Four tourists from Britain, Australia, Germany and Romania were hospitalised on the island for injuries sustained during the accident.

Captain of the boat was arrested and charged with negligence that led to deaths and injuries.

The United Kingdom’s Foreign Office confirmed the death of the British woman and of another receiving treatment in the hospital. The office remains in contact with Thai authorities for further information.
