Toyota Vietnam said it is recalling 72 sedans for transmission replacements due to the wrong kind of transmission fluid used during production.

The recall, which began on Feb. 17, includes Camry 2.4, Corolla Altis 1.8 and 2.0 and Vios G produced between January 9 and 12 of this year, the Japanese invested auto maker said.

While the Camry 2.4 and Vios G, which are equipped with AT transmission boxes (AT), were filled with the wrong fluid for CVT transmission box, the CVT equipped Corolla Altis 1.8 and 2.0 were filled with AT fluid.

Continuously variable transmissions (CVT) can change through an infinite number of effective gear ratios between the maximum and minimum values. In contrast, automatic transmissions (AT) offer a fixed number of gear ratios.

Toyota said the while effected Camry 2.4 and Vios G will generate abnormal vibrations during shifting, the effected Corolla Altis will produce abnormal sounds and may be unable to run after prolonged operation.

The 89.6 million USD company, established in 1995, is 70/20/10 owned by Toyota Motor Corp, Viet Nam Engine and Agriculture Machinery Corp (VEAM) and KUO Singapore Pte./.
