Craft and art shows including an exhibition by disabled Japanese photographers will open the annual Hoi An-Japan Cultural Festival on August 23.

The three-day festival in Hoi An will include a Haiku calligraphy exhibition to mark the 10th anniversary of cooperation and exchange programmes between Hoi An and Japan.

Japanese artists are also bringing their work to the city during the annual festival to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan.

Activities will also be held at the Japanese bridge and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street.

Some of the highlights include demonstrations on Kirie – the Japanese art of paper cutting and activities related to Japanese cuisine, tea-drinking customs and traditional games such as Jan-ken (paper, scissors, stone).

Street performance during the day and night will also take place during the festival.

A seminar on garbage management in Hoi An will be held at Hoai River square on August 23.-VNA
