More than 100 athletes from 10 central and Central Highlands provinces and cities are competing at the 2013 Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Championship, which opened in the central province of Quang Nam on June 24.

The two-day event aims to honour and promote the national martial arts’ quintessence to international tourists, and encourage local people to participate in this sport.

Competitors are expected to compete in eight male weight categories (45-80kg) and six female weight classes (42-68kg).

Visitors were cheered up by many unique and interesting performances by local martial arts clubs at the opening ceremony.

Jointly organised by the Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the event is part of the ongoing fifth Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013.-VNA
