At least six people were killed and 59 others wounded after a train ploughed into an oil truck in Bintaro of South Jakarta on December 9.

The accident took place at around 11.20 am (local time) when the truck was passing through a railroad crossing gate that should have been closed.

All the injured persons were rushed to several nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Most of them are believed to be the passengers of the train.

The reason for the accident is now under investigation.

The same day, a shallow undersea-quake of 5.8 magnitude jolted North Maluku in eastern Indonesia , the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake struck at 3.47 pm (local time). Its epicentre was 28 km northwest of North Maluku’s Morotai Island , 16 km under the seabed.

Indonesia is prone to quakes as it sits on a vulnerable zone known as the “Pacific Ring of Fire”.-VNA
