Relevant forces of Vietnam’s northwestern province of Dien Bien and Laos’ Phongsaly province seized heroin and weapons worth over 30 billion VND (1.4 million USD) during house raids on May 1.

This is the largest seizure ever made by the two forces.

The contraband was found in the homes of three alleged heroin traffickers - Tong Dia, Tong Dinh and Chu Mua Ly - in Pa Hoc hamlet, Muong May district, Phongsaly province.

A total of 34 cakes of heroin, 15.3kg of heroin powder, 64.5kg of additives used in heroin processing, five guns and nearly 1,500 bullets, 28kg of explosive, automobiles, currency in US dollar and Vietnamese dong, gold and other tools and equipment to refine heroin were confiscated.

Investigations show that in the past decade, the traffickers have brought more than 10,000 cakes of heroin into Vietnam through the Tay Trang international border gate.

On April 30, 38 -year-old Ly Tung Nhia from Pa Hoc hamlet, a member of the ring, was caught transporting heroin into Vietnam.

Leaders of Dien Bien Border Guard said this is one of the largest professional drug trafficking rings equipped with weapons.

In recent years Pa Hoc hamlet has become known for drug manufacturing and dealing.

The smuggling case is still under investigation.-VNA
