Hanoi (VNA) – Coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh in the north to Khanh Hoa in the central region have been told to prepare for Typhoon Aere, which has moved into northern East Sea, becoming the sixth storm hitting the East Sea this year.

According to the National Centre of Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at noon on October 6, the eye of the typhoon was at 20.7 degrees north latitude and 119.9 degrees east longitude, in the northeast of the East Sea. The strongest wind speeds near the centre was estimated at 60-75km per hour.

In the next 24 hours, the storm is forecast to move west-northwest at about 20-25km per hour and is gaining in strength. At 10am of October 7, its centre is forecast at 20.4 degrees north latitude and 116.37 degrees east longitude, about 650km to the northeast of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago. The speed of strongest winds will be 75-90km per hour.

The steering committee for natural disaster prevention has sent a dispatch tasking relevant agencies of the vulnerable coastal areas with updating locals on the storm and strictly monitoring boat activities at sea.-VNA
