On May 18 the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria held a ceremony to mark the 122 nd anniversary of the birth of the late President Ho Chi Minh.

During his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador Do Trong Cuong talked about the revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh and his desire for independence and freedom for his country and happiness and prosperity for the Vietnamese people.

He also underlined the leading role the President played in the Vietnamese revolution and how he inspired revolutionary movements around the world.

Cuong said that the thoughts and moral example set by President Ho Chi Minh are a valuable spiritual asset for the Vietnamese Party and people, sparking the nation’s construction process, to become a wealthy and strong country with a just and civili s ed society .

On the same day, a similar ceremony was held in the Vietnamese Embassy in Paris .

Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Chi Dung, head of the Vietnamese delegation to UNESCO along with staff from the Vietnamese embassy and members of the Vietnamese community in France laid a wreath in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at 9 Impasse Compointe Street in district 17, Paris , where the President has lived and worked between 1921-1923

Ambassador Dung said that President Ho Chi Minh will always be a shining example for future Vietnamese generations to follow and the president’s spirit is, and always will be alive in the minds and hearts of the Vietnamese people

He added that he hopes that the friendship and cooperation shown between Vietnam and France will grow in the future to mark the 40 th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Jean-Pierre Brard, Honorary Mayor of the city Montreuil , said that French people and people from other countries across the world will always admire President Ho Chi Minh, who always believed the national liberation struggle and re-construction of Vietnam would be successful.

President Ho Chi Minh also helped to strengthen solidarity and mutual understanding between the nations across the world, he added.

In Thailand on May 18, the Vietnamese Community in Udon Thani province in conjunction with the Vietnamese Embassy also held a ceremony inaugurate of an exhibition centre, dedicated to the life and revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh when he lived in Thailand.

To mark the occasion, newspapers in Laos including Pasason, Pathet Laos, Laos Phatthana and Vientiene Mai published articles praising the life and revolutionary cause of President Ho Chi Minh.

The Vietnamese Cambodian Association also held a meeting on May 18 in Phnom Penh to mark the 122 years since President Ho Chi Minh’s birth.

At the meeting, the participants were shown a documentary about President Ho Chi Minh and afterwards attended a concert.-VNA
