The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has committed 30 million USD worth of funds to assist environment and energy projects in Malaysia.

One of the latest environment and energy projects in which UNDP is assisting is the implementation of energy efficiency systems in government buildings which will likely start in 2011 and end by 2015, Assistant Resident Representative Asfaazam Kasbani, was quoted by Bernama news agency as saying.

The UNDP will assist with 5 million USD for energy efficiency systems in government buildings, Kasbani, who is also the Senior Programme Manager for Environment and Energy programmes, said on the sidelines of a discussion on "The Economics of Climate Change in Southeast Asia: A Regional Review", jointly organized by the UNDP and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on July 2.

Other UNDP-funded projects in Malaysia include a project on building integrated solar photovoltaic systems and renewable projects such as biogas and biomass./.
