The Prime Minister has approved a US-financed project on improving the national capacity of preventing and minimising the use of child labour in the country.

The project, which is sponsored by the United States Department of Labor via the International Labour Organisation, will be implemented over 60 months in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong delta An Giang province and other localities by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

It looks to provide technical assistance for the examination and revision of laws and policies associated with child labour in line with international commitments that Vietnam made or will take on.

The capacity of Vietnamese agencies and related organisations in determining and solving child labour issues will be enhanced.

Awareness-raising campaigns will be launched while multi-layered intervention models to prevent or help children avoid the risks of falling victim of any forms of child labour will be built.

The project is implemented with a total capital of 9.2 million USD, in which 8 million USD is non-refundable ODA capital from the US Department of Labor and the remainder is corresponding capital.-VNA
