US Dollar rates soared at domestic commercial banks on May 6, touching the ceiling price set by the State Bank of Vietnam.

In the morning, Techcombank added 10 VND on the buying side and and 3 VND on the selling side, listing each dollar at 21,610 VND and 21,673, VND, respectively.

The same exchange rates were also applied in the Eximbank and Sacombank on the day.

The Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) alone remained the rates it set on May 5 with each dollar (buy-sell) listed at 21,610 VND and 21,670 VND, respectively.

The bank raised the dollar buying and selling rates by 20 VND on May 4 from the previous rates of 21,570 VND and 21,630 VND respectively, which had been applied since the beginning of this month.

At the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) and the Bank for the Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), each dollar was bought at 21,610 VND and sold at 21,670 VND on May 5.

The State Bank of Vietnam has yet to make statement on the exchange rate adjustment.-VNA
