A range of activities will take place on April 29-30 to mark the 40th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2015), according to the organising committee.

In a news conference held on April 13 in Ho Chi Minh City, organisers said that anniversary celebrations will be conducted by the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee, National Assembly, State President, Government and the Central Fatherland Front.

The programme will span two days; on April 29, the first day, ceremonies will be held in Hanoi at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Martyr Monument and in HCM City at the Martyrs’ Cemetery and Ben Duoc Memorial Temple.

Parades and marches in Le Duan Street and the April 30 Park in HCM City will be held on April 30 and broadcast live on the Vietnam Television, Radio the Voice of Vietnam and city television and radio stations.

Attendees of the myriad of events in HCM City will include leaders of the Party, State and armed forces; those involved in the 1975 Spring Offensive; international delegations; diplomatic representatives; and international organisations.

Nearly 600 local and international reporters have registered to cover the events.

On the night of April 30, a special art programme with 4,400 artists will be held in HCM City.

Fireworks displays are also scheduled across eight spots throughout HCM City.-VNA
