Vedan Vietnam on Sept. 10 signed an agreement to pay compensation of 120 billion VND (6.2 million USD) to farmers in Dong Nai province for losses it caused by polluting the Thi Vai River.

The Taiwanese MSG maker also agreed to pay the People's Committees of Nhon Trach and Long Thanh districts, where the affected farmers live, 500 million VND (25,640 USD) each for expenses involved in estimating the losses.

It will pay half of the amount to farmers within a week and the rest on January 14 next year. Meanwhile, it will furnish a bank guarantee for the remaining amount to farmers representatives' within a week from Sept. 10./.
