Vietnam Airlines fully restores hacked computer systems
The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has announced that its computer systems at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai international airports have been fully restored following cyber attacks on July 29.
Illustrative image (Source: VNA)A Vietnam Airlines representative said it worked with information technology experts from the Ministry of Public Security’s Department of Cyber Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications’ Authority of Information Security and Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team, the State-run telecommunications provider Viettel and software maker FPT to regain control and reboot hacked programmes as well as examine other programmes to ensure flight safety.
Vietnam Airlines also actively partnered with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to restore computer-linked operations at the two airports’ check-in counters.
The incident has yet to affect Vietnam Airlines’ flight safety and business operations, the representative said.
About the Golden Lotus programme, Vietnam Airlines temporarily halted online services to ensure the absolute safety for all of its members.
Vietnam Airlines managers also expressed their apology to passengers over the incident and assured them that preventive measures have been fanned out to strengthen airport supervision.
The computer systems at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City and Noi Bai airport in Hanoi were hacked at 1:46pm and 4:07pm on July 29, respectively.
Data about thousands of Golden Lotus’s members were broken into and leaked out.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the attacks affected more than 100 flights, dozens of them were delayed for between 15 minutes and over one hour.
The official conclusion about the attacks has yet to be issued.-VNA
