Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina Nguyen Dinh Thao made a trip to Argentinian Central province from June 30 - July 2 to promote trade between the two countries.

During a meeting with the Governor of Mendoza, Francisco Perez, the Vietnamese diplomat said Vietnam and Argentina possess a huge trade cooperation potential, especially for wine and agricultural products.

He added that Vietnam’s market for wine is growing, sparked by the recent rapid improvement in living standards.

For his part, Perez congratulated his guests on Vietnam’s achievements in national development and pledged to facilitate cooperation between the two countries and business circles.

Director of the Mendoza Agency for Investment Matilde Bordon spoke highly of Vietnam’s support for the Mendoza-based company Impsa, which has invested in a wind power project in central Binh Thuan province.

During their stay, Thao and his delegation attended meetings with local vineyards and wine producers.

The delegation also exchanged experiences in irrigation with local experts.

Mendoza covers an area of nearly 150,000 km2, more than 5 percent of Argentina’s total territory. However, 70 percent of the country’s grapes are grown here.

Grapes and grape products account for 50 percent of the province’s export value.

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Argentina exceeded 965 million USD during the first five months of this year.

Export between the two countries in 2014 was valued at 1.92 billion USD. Argentina is one of three Latin American nations whose trade value with Vietnam exceeds 1 billion USD, along with Mexico and Brazil.-VNA
