Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan Nguyen Xuan Luu attended the 14th conference of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) that took place in Islamabad capital city on November 24-25.

Discussions focused on challenges facing ombudsman agencies and their role in combating corruption and improving governance efficiency.

Pakistani Federal Ombudsman Salman Farooqi was elected as AOA President while Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova became Vice President.

Connie Lau from Hong Kong will take the role of Secretary and Sungbo Lee, Chairman of the Anti-corruption and Civil Rights Commission of the Republic of Korea, will be in charge of financial affairs.

China, Japan, Indonesia, Macao (China) and Tatarstan were elected as members of the directors’ board.

Initiated by China and Pakistan in 1996, AOA is a regional body for promoting the principles and practices of ombudsmanship.

The Vietnam Government Inspectorate officially joined the AOA in 1997.

AOA’s conferences are held biennially in its members.-VNA
