New Delhi (VNA) – The International Fleet Review (IFR) took place in India on February 6 with the participation of nearly 50 countries, including Vietnam.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee together with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar conducted a fleet inspection on the ship INS Sumitra.

The President said, this is a memorable event, which aims to praise the significant role the Indian Navy play in keeping peace on the Indian Ocean.

He called on marine nations to join hands to maintain peace, stability, and security in oceans, adding that the Indian Navy is re-building its strategy to cope with emerging obstacles given global changes.

Vietnam’s frigate HQ-011 Dinh Tien Hoang docked at the Indian port of Visakhapatnam on February 3 and will stay until February 9.

The IFR was first organised in 1953 to showcase navy power and combat readiness. This year’s event highlighted the theme “United Through Oceans”.-VNA
