Hanoi (VNA)Kazakh Ambassador to Vietnam Bakytzhan Zhumagulov has suggested Kazakhstan and Vietnam team up in railway transportation at a press conference in Hanoi on June 23.

He made the suggestion with belief that Vietnam will act as a railway transit destination for goods between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and other ASEAN nations.

The diplomat said that the free trade agreement signed by Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union in May 2015 will help boost economic ties between Vietnam and the union, which includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

He also briefed participants on main features of the Kazakh nation and people, introducing them to the International Exposition 2017 scheduled for June 10-September 10 in Astana.

The ambassador affirmed that Kazakhstan will reserve a central position for Vietnam in the fair, and hope that the ASEAN country will bring its specialties to the event.

Vietnam and Kazakhstan set up diplomatic ties on September 26, 1992. Two-way trade amounted to 205 million USD in 2015.-VNA
