Cao Bang (VNA) – The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held a requiem for martyrs who laid down their lives for national liberation and defence in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang on April 18.

Attending the event at the Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda in Trung Khanh District were war veterans, over 2,000 monks and nuns, representatives from the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, the National Assembly’s Ethnic Council and the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs.

Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council and head of the management board of the provincial VBS, said the nation, Buddhist followers as well as the Party and State never forget the contributions of the martyrs.

Participants prayed that the fallen soldiers will rest in peace.

On the occasion, the VBS and Mobifone presented 2,500 gifts to Trung Khanh district.

Construction on a kindergarten worth 2.5 billion VND (113,000 USD) – a gift of the VBS and the National Citizen Bank, also began on the same day.-VNA
