Vietnam wishes to continue receiving support and cooperation from donors and international friends to maintain and promote its achievements in preventing and fighting HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remarks during a December 12 meeting with representatives from international donors of Vietnam in the work in Hanoi.

Phuc, who also heads the National Committee for IHV/AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control, said Vietnam highly appreciates the donors for their support in finance, technology and experience in the field.

He noted that Vietnam is still facing many challenges in the fight against HIV/AIDS, as well as difficulties sparked by declining international fund and new problems arisen in the work.

On behalf of the international organisations and donors, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pratibha Mehta lauded Vietnam’s efforts in socio-economic development and the fight against HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution in particular.

She emphasised that the country should further focus its resources on preventing and combating HIV/AIDS, while multiplying good models in the field to fulfil its millennium development goals.

Representatives from international organisations also pledged to continue aiding the Vietnamese Government in realising policies and programmes to control HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution, contributing to maintaining the country’s achievements in the field.

They also pledged to stand ready to come up with technical assistance and share experience in designing related policies in the work.-VNA
