Vietnam and China have committed to supporting each other in hosting important future sport events in the region.

The agreement was reached during talks between Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh and Chinese Minister in charge of the General Administration of Sport Liu Peng, in Hanoi on April 20.

Under the agreement, China will support Vietnam ’s hosting of the 18 th Asian Games (ASIAD 18) to be held in Hanoi in 2019, as well as some other regional sports events.

Under the spirit of the sport cooperation agreement signed between the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Chinese General Administration of Sport in Beijing on July 19, 2010 and upon Vietnam’s request, China is willing to help Vietnam train human resources in sport, including the training of athletes, postgraduates and trainees.
China also pledged to send experts and coaches to Vietnam for training, with the aim of raising Vietnam’s sporting performances at international events and creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese athletes to compete with China’s excellent athletes at Chinese sport centres.

The two sides agreed on the organisation of an annual bicycle racing from Guangzhou to Hanoi , which is expected to develop into a China-ASEAN bicycle racing series.

Reviewing the Vietnam-China sport relations, the two sides affirmed the effectiveness of their cooperation, reflected in the development of cooperation between sport federations and localities.

At present, several Chinese sport trainers, experts and athletes are working in Vietnamese sport squads and localities while a number of Vietnamese chess players and 300 sports students are studying in China .

The Chinese side spoke highly of Vietnam ’s contribution to regional and continental sporting development.

The two sides agreed to restore shortcomings to further develop their sport cooperation./.
