Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) held the 11th meeting of the Vietnam-China joint working group on meteorological cooperation in Hanoi on April 12.

The event was part of an agreement on scientific and technological cooperation signed between the two sides on February 13, 1993. On this occasion, a new agreement is expected to be inked to replace the old one.

CMA Deputy Administrator Yu Xinwen said that over the past 23 years, through 10 meetings, Vietnam and China have collaborated closely in weather forecasting, meteorological information sharing, and education and training in this area.

He expressed his hope to continue expanding cooperation with Vietnam in the meteorological field for the development of each nation.

At the event, the two sides reviewed the implementation of 14 cooperation categories reached in the 10th meeting. To date, they have finished work on the 10 categories.

For 2016-2018, both sides agreed to boost coordination in weather forecasting, human resources training, scientific research, and assessment and supervision of climate change in Asia.

The CMA Deputy Administrator took the occasion to invite Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Chu Ngoc Hien to attend the China-ASEAN Meteorological Cooperation Forum, scheduled for September in Nanning.
