Vietnamese health authorities on August 7 confirmed 35 new cases of A/H1N1 influenza and called on people to protect themselves and the community by strictly following preventive measures.

Among the new cases, the southern provinces reported the largest number, 18, the North, 8, the central region, 4 and the Central Highlands, 5.

To date, Vietnam has reported 1,078 positive cases of the disease, and one death. More than half of the total, 628 patients, have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

The remaining 449 are under quarantine and being treated. All are in stable condition.

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), as of August 7, 202,151 people have been confirmed to be positive for the A/H1N1 virus in 168 countries and territories, resulting in 1,550 deaths.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand has reported the highest number, 10,043 cases of A/H1N1 infection with 81 fatalities, followed by the Philippines, with 3,207 patients and 8 deaths; Malaysia, 1,492 and 14; and Singapore, 1217 and 8./.
