Vietnam’s taekwondo martial artists amassed 46 gold medals, 29 silvers and 19 bronzes to finish first at the 12th Southeast Asian Taekwondo Championship, which concluded in Ho Chi Minh City on March 25.

In the last day of the competition, Vietnamese martial artists did well in combat events to add more 12 gold medals thanks to some big names such as Nguyen Trong Cuong, Pham Thi Thu Hien, Ha Thi Nguyen and Lam Thi Ha Thanh.

In the previous days, Chau Tuyet Van, Le Thanh Trung and their teammates performed well in Poomsae events.

Philippines came in second with 21 gold medals, 26 silvers and nine bronzes while the third place went to Malaysia with five gold medals, nine silvers and 19 bronzes.

The tournament, held at the Lanh Binh Thang Gymnasium in HCM City, drew 337 martial artists from 10 countries in Southeast Asia and served as a warm-up contest for the 28th Southeast Asian Games, which will take place in Singapore this June.-VNA
