Vietnam’s U23s tied in a goalless friendly match against the Republic of Korea in Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium on late May 9.

The guests dominated during first 10 minutes of the first half with a number of scoring attempts, but were unable to make a goal.

In the second half, the guests continued maintaining control during the first few minutes seeking scoring opportunities. The hosts, after a change in tactics, had opportunities at minutes 49 and 57 but were unable to put points on the board.

At the 88th minute, the RoK players created an attack with a long-distance shot but it was saved by the Vietnamese goalkeeper.

The friendly match was important as Vietnam prepare for the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in June, said Coach Toshiya Miura at a press conference held before the match.

The 49-year-old coach said he would select players for Singapore based on their performance in the game.

Miura called up 30 players, but only 21 will go to the Games.
