Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam and the European Parliament (EP) are hoped to promote cooperation in labour and employment in the coming time.

Chairman of the EP’s Delegation to Southeast Asia and ASEAN (DASE) Werner Langen told President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Dang Ngoc Tung during their meeting in Hanoi on November 5.

The Vietnamese official hailed the EP for helping push the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation (PCA) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

He informed the guest of Vietnam’s ratification and implementation of international labour conventions as well as its engagement in the cooperation agreements with the European Union (EU).

He noted that Vietnam has ratified five out of the eight basic conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and is studying remaining ones on the freedom of association and protection of the right to organise; the right to organise and bargain collectively; and abolition of forced labour, for ratification at proper time.

Additionally, Vietnam has been implementing effectively policies for labourers and popularising regulations of international conventions to protect their legitimate rights and interests, he said.-VNA
