Vietnam secured four gold and three silver medals to come first at the 7th World Shuttlecock Championships, which took place in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap from September 2-5.

China and Hungary ranked second and third respectively.

The event attracted 104 athletes from 12 countries and territories around the world, including Austria, Italy, Finland, France and Germany.

Players competed in singles, doubles and team events for both men and women.

This is the first time the championship has been held in Vietnam. Over the six previous events of its kind in Hungary in 2000 and 2007, China in 2001, 2005 and 2010 and Germany in 2002, Vietnam was the overall winner.

The tournament confirmed Vietnam’s world No. 1 status in the game.-VNA
