State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan has hailed effective efforts by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to help the nations of the world, including Vietnam.

In a reception of visiting IFRC Vice Chairman Tadateru Konoe, who is also Chairman of the Japan Red Cross, in Hanoi on Aug. 13, Vice President Doan said the IFRC’s relief and natural disaster control programmes for poor countries as well as its other activities not only brought joy to needy people, but also to the whole community.

She expressed her thanks to the Japan Red Cross for its help in planting mangrove forests and organising exchange programmes for the two countries’ youth, contributing to creating an opportunity to learn about the land and people of Vietnam and Japan.

Tadateru Konoe spoke of the Vietnam Red Cross’s activities, particularly in responding natural disasters and renormalisation afterwards, as well as community-based health.

He expressed his pleasure with scale and effectiveness of the mangrove forest planting project. He said that since they both suffer natural disasters, Vietnam and Japan can profit from sharing their experiences in disaster control and mitigation./.
