A ceremony was held in Hanoi on June 14 to honour 100 dedicated blood donors on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day.

Among the 100 honourary attendees, 10 donated their blood between 60 and 96 times in 2014, while another 46 gave blood at least 20 times last year. About two dozens donors were recognised for their efforts in calling on hundreds of others to donate.

At the ceremony, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan asked local authorities to cooperate more with the health sector and Red Cross to increase public awareness about the benefits of blood donation.

Earlier on June 13 a blood donation day called The Kind-hearted Summer was held in Hanoi, collecting a total of 1,500 units of blood from volunteers.-VNA
