Vietnam hopes its cooperation with the World Bank (WB) will further develop and be more effective in 2014, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said while receiving WB Country Director Victoria Kwakwa in Hanoi on January 23.

While speaking highly of the WB’s effective cooperation and assistance to Vietnam in the recent past, PM Dung informed his guest that this year the country will make efforts to continue to stabilise the economy, curb inflation, boost economic restructuring, achieve a higher economic growth rate and ensure social security.

To achieve these, the country will have to implement both medium and long-term tasks in a drastic and synchronous manner to create a foundation for sustainable development, he said.

Apart from its internal strength, Vietnam hopes to receive greater support and cooperation from the international community as well as the WB, PM Dung added.

For her part, Victoria Kwakwa congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in 2013 that helped improve the country’s position and role in the global arena.

She also suggested Vietnam takes more radical measures to stabilise the macro economy, remove difficulties for production and trading activities, maintain a reasonable economic growth rate and ensure social welfare.
The WB will stand side by side with Vietnam in implementing its development goals, she pledged.-VNA
