Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s national football team jumped 12 places in the international football rankings, according to FIFA’s latest list.

The governing body of world football moved Vietnam up from 145th to 137th position in its June table.

Vietnam took a leap in the rankings following their 2-0 win against Syria in a recent friendly match at the Hanoi-based My Dinh National Stadium.

In the regional rankings, Vietnam ranked third in Southeast Asia, behind Thailand, world No 117, and the Philippines, which dropped five places to No 120 in the world.

In Asia, Iran maintained their spot as the leading team, followed by the Republic of Korea and Japan.

The world top 10 did not change much. Argentina are still on top, followed closely by Belgium and Colombia.-VNA
