Vietnamese and Lao security officials gathered at a conference in Vientiane, Laos to strengthen security and anti-crime cooperation between the two nations.

The annual event on June 26, held for the sixth time, was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Public Security To Lam and Lao Security Deputy Minister Kongthong Phongvichit.

This year’s agenda included evaluating security, social order and safety in the respective nations and reviewing the implementation of the two nations’ agreements on security and anti-crime cooperation.

Participants also discussed joint approaches for transnational crime prevention and cooperation in the future.

Addressing the event, Lam called for closer cooperation between the two nations’ security forces to deal with increasingly complicated criminals.

For his part, Kongthong Phongvichit stressed the need for two sides to devise drastic measures against drug dealers.

He expressed his belief that the conference would contribute to tightening security cooperation as well as the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.-VNA
