Hanoi (VNA) -
Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh held talks with his Malaysian counterpart, Dato' Sri Mohd Johari Baharum, in Hanoi on December 14.

At the meeting, the two sides acknowledged the practical outcomes of the two countries’ defence cooperation based on agreements reached by the two ministries, including the memorandum of understanding signed in 2008 and the letter of intent inked in 2015.

They agreed to continue implementing their cooperation commitments, particularly the acceleration of completing a cooperation mechanism in the framework of the high-ranking joint committee on defence collaboration and other working groups.

They also reached consensus on increasing bilateral consultations on the sideline of multilateral forums in which both countries participate, such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), ADMM Plus and ASEAN Regional Forum.

These consultations are important to help the sides come up with common stances on regional and international security issues as well as consolidate solidarity within the ASEAN bloc.

Later the same day, the Malaysian deputy minister, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from December 14-16, paid a courtesy call on Defence Minister Ngo Xuan Lich.-VNA
