Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai on June 5 called on people from all walks of life to join hands in dealing with climate change, while taking more action to protect the environment and exploit natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Addressing a Ho Chi Minh City meeting in response to World Environment Day (June 5), Hai said he hopes that Vietnamese citizens will offer solutions to effectively manage and use natural resources in combination with improving the environment, especially in the sea and on islands.

He also underlined the need to raise public awareness on this issue.

United Nations Resident Coordinator to Vietnam Pratibha Mehta spoke highly of Vietnam’s actions in promptly carrying out programmes to counter climate change and the rising sea level.

She asked people to say no to litter dropping, nylon bags and power and water waste, adding that small actions can make a big change.

With the theme “Raise your voice, not the sea level”, this year’s World Environment Day offers a chance for the globe to cooperatively deal with the challenges posed by climate change, rising sea levels, environmental pollution and the ecological imbalance.
